Quadrant RASWIN Install Directions

The instructions below are based on an existing MS SQL server environment hosting the RASWINSQL database.

If you are creating a test setup on an existing test SQL server, create the RASWINSQL database on that server, take a full backup of the production RASWINSQL db and restore the backup to the test instance.

Please call us (1-520-299-9741) or contact us via email for assistance in acquiring the file or answering your questions.

The normal time required for the update on the first workstation is about 30 minutes, and 10-15 minutes on each remaining workstation.

Important Note: Since June, 2010 the RASWIN application has used an encrypted setup for cashier passwords. If you have not updated since that time, ALL workstations will require updating because once the update on the first register is done, the login settings for each cashier will be updated to the new encrypted form; older versions of the RASWIN don't know anything about this and won't be able to connect until they are updated. See this link for more details on this topic.

  1. Download the most current version of the setup program. The download process requires a password. Please contact Quadrant Systems to obtain this information.

The RASWIN user manual is 100% on line.

The most current release notes can be viewed at these links:

  2. In SQL Server:

Make sure that the REG001 SQL login exists and that the user id and password are set to all UPPERCASE REG001. When upgrading your production database this user ID and password should already exist, but you should insure it is uppercase. Earlier versions of SQL were not case sensitive and may not have been set up with all upper case values. This user_id is NEVER used as an actual USER login the RASWIN. but rather by the program itself to connect to the database, then RASWIN users

The REG001 login requires DBO rights on the RASWINSQL db, because on startup the RASWIN program may find it necessary to make certain changes to the database for update purposes. This includes making tables to table (i.e., adding new columns, indexing, creating or modifying views, etc.) Test this user id and password by logging into SQL using SQL authentication and the above credentials.

  3. At the workstation being used for install:

If you are updating an existing workstation there should already be an ODBC setup on the workstation

If you are doing an installation on a new workstation it will be necessary to set up a new ODBC connection.

Complete setup instructions for the ODBC are in the user manual. The following is a quick summary:

    1. Create a SYSTEM DSN (ODBC).

Be sure to use the 32 bit ODBCAD32.EXE program if you are on a 64 bit workstation

      ( C:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe )
    2. Name: RASWIN

( NOT RASWINSQL, which is the database name)
    3. Server: Choose the correct server depending which task you're performing (creating a test instance or upgrading prod). We can't do this automatically because we have no way to know the server name in use at each individual customer site.
    4. Choose SQL Server authentication mode >
    5. User ID REG001
    6. Password REG001
    7. Default DB should be determined by the ODBC setup and show as RASWINSQL (because the REG001 user is defined as defaulting to RASWINSQL in SQL Server)
    8. Default language : English
    9. Test the connection
  4. After successfully creating and testing the ODBC

If this is an existing production install you are upgrading, double check register number for the machine you're doing the upgrade on and reuse that register number. You can find this info in the

    C:\Program Files\QUADRANT\RASWIN

    or

    C:\Program Files(x86)\QUADRANT\RASWIN (on Windows 7, 64 bit)

    directory.

There will be a file there called REG.xxx (where xxx = the three digit register number, e.g., REG.001 for register #1, REG.002 for register #2, etc.)

It is critical that you use the same register number AND that you don't duplicate register numbers across multiple workstations. This will affect receipt numbering and cause problems that are very difficult to fix after the fact.

  5. Run the setup_raswin_xxxx.exe file which you downloaded earlier. If you need to update multiple workstations we suggest that you place the setup_raswin_xxxx.exe file on a shared network drive and run it directly from there to install the RASWIN software on each client workstation. If you see any errors during the setup just click on 'ignore' or 'skip' and it should proceed with the install without problem.

Each Quadrant RASWIN workstation must be assigned a unique register number. To do this, you will use a special program we provide that makes the needed entries in the Quadrant database to associate the assigned register number with the Windows Worksation ID. This must be run from on each workstation to be set up. This program is called REGSET.EXE. Just browse to the applicable location for you OS version and locate the REGSET.EXE file and double click on it.

This can be found in the

    c:\program files\quadrant\raswin\extra_utilities directory.

    or

c:\program files (x86)\quadrant\raswin\extra_utilities directory on 64 bit workstations.

Normally, this only needs to be done one time when the workstation is first put into use. But if you need to reuse the program (say, after reinstalling the RASWIN program on a new workstation with a different Windows Workstation ID, or to assign the machine a different register number for some reason) then you would simply run the REGSET program again.

Watch the short video below to see how to use REGSET.EXE

Note that regardless of which register is being installed, the application itself will connect to SQL using REG001. Only a single user ID (reg001) is required in the database.

  6. Once this is complete you should be ready to login. Note that The REG001 user id and password is not used to login to the RASWIN program via the RASWIN login screen. It is only used internally by RASWIN to initially connect to the database, so that actual user logins can be verified against the cashiers table login ID's and passwords.

In the new version the cashier's password should be the same as in the previous version. If for some reason it didn't come over during the upgrade the system should have reset the password to PASSWORD which forces the user to change it on first login.

See this link for more details on this topic.

Important Note: When the RASWIN program first starts with the new version it will take a little while to perform some housekeeping and cleanup of old data stored within the RASWIN directory and its sub-directories. It may seem like it has locked up; be patient and let this process run its course. The initial startup delay is a one-time event and subsequent program starts should be much faster.
  7. Test this first workstation install before moving on to the next workstation. Quadrant support can be available for assistance after hours or on weekends with sufficient advance notice.

We have completed many of these updates and can usually identify what needs tweaking in the database or settings so please don't waste a lot of time on it if you need help .. just give us a call.
